| 19th–20th September 1940s Weekend | |||

Following hot on the heels of the successful Steam Gala, it's time for ration books, gas masks and the home guard. I've not taken photos at the 40s for a few years due mainly to operating reasons, but this year I was able to break free on Sunday and take in the atmosphere. The weekend has steadily grown over the last decade and is now (in my opinion) the best annual even that the NNR holds – it is simply superb. To give a flavour of the weekend, I've concentrated on some of the people (that attend in period dress) and one or two of the diorama from the stations along the line. |

| 4th–6th September Steam Gala | |||
| Most steam gala's are about locos, usually lots of them. There may be a special guest loco (or two), but few galas are about a complete train. For this year's annual Steam Gala the NNR got its sums right: N2 + Quads = Perfection. There is no other word for it. That said, you could almost be forgiven for forgetting the supporting cast which included a return visit for celebrity 4-4-0 3440 City of Truro. This was joined by fellow GWR stalemates 6619 from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and 'Polish Prairie' 5521 from Flower Mill. The home fleet consisted of J15 65462, N7 69621 and making its first gala appearance for several years 1982 Ring Haw. (Oh!, and there was a diesel too, Class 24 24081.) I must add at this point it was a welcome comeback for the goods train. Long may it feature in the gala timetable. | |||

| Ian Bowskill Photo Charters. Monday 9th March featured visiting 4F 44422 renumbered as Leicester's 43954 and paired with the NNR's Gresley Buffet car, giving a flavour of the Summer Saturday trains seen over the Joint. Tuesday 10th March saw 4MT 76079, firstly with the breakdown train and later with coaching stock. While not regulars, Standard 4s did occasionally make it onto the M&GN. | |||

| 27th February–8th March That's Yer Lot | |||
| Commemorating 50 years since the closure of the former Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway on the 28th February 1959, the North Norfolk Railway's 'That's Yer Lot' steam gala was the biggest and most successful gala held by the railway. The five day event (held over two weekends) featured eight steam locomotives representing types that were associated with the M&GN or East Anglia. An intensive timetable was worked throughout the gala, highlights of which including the pairing of visiting B1 Mayflower and the line's Gresley Quad-Arts, and the long awaited return of a goods train to the gala programme in the form of a demolition train (quite appropriate for the event). Visiting locos were: L&Y A Class 1300; LNER B1 1306 Mayflower; LMS 4F 44422; BR 4MT 76079, 2MT 78019. These were joined by the home fleet: LNER J15 65462, N7 69621 and WD Austerity 2-10-0 90775.
