About

Based at Bewdley (Worcestershire), the Severn Valley Railway runs 16 miles of the former GWR branch line from Hartlebury to Shrewsbury. The line north of Bridgnorth was closed in 1963, but the Kidderminster to Bewdley and Bewdley to Hartlebury sections remained open until 1970. The line north of Bewdley to Alveley Colliery also stayed open until 1970, when it too closed. Today the Severn Valley Railway runs passenger trains from Bridgnorth (Shropshire) to Kidderminster (Worcestershire). The SVR is one of the premier preserved railways in Britain and is home to over 24 ex-BR steam locomotives and hundreds of items of rolling stock. It also has its own locomotive repair workshop and boiler shop facilities. Where anything from running repairs and maintenance, to complete restoration of entire locomotives is carried out.
